The
world of surrogacy is a constantly changing one. Two years ago, commercial
surrogacy in India and Thailand for Australians’ shut down. Change was sparked
by the scandal associated with Baby Gammy. It left many Intending Parents who
had started the surrogacy process in a very difficult situation.
Such
is the demand for surrogacy that within years the surrogacy opportunities in
Ukraine boomed.
With
friends seriously considering some radical options to have a family, I wanted
to know what the new countries for surrogacy would be like, in particular
Ukraine.
From
reports, the fertility community is a well established. There appear to be some
legal issues particularly for countries where surrogacy is illegal. Countries
such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria prohibit all forms
of surrogacy. (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-28679020).
From what I understand, Australians would be left in a complicated legal position
bringing a child back home.
Anecdotally,
there are many couples making there way to Ukraine to chase the dream of a
family.
Before you leave for Ukraine, your doctor needs to certify that
one of the following is true:
· Absence of
a womb (inborn or acquired)
· deformation
of the uterus, making pregnancy and delivery impossible
· Synechi of
womb cavity, which cannot be cured
· somatic
diseases, which prevent carrying a pregnancy, by putting the women’s health or
life at risk
· unsuccessful
IVF attempts (minimum 4) with embryos of high quality. http://www.familiesthrusurrogacy.com/surrogacy-in-ukraine/

Through Surrogacy indicates that a surrogacy process in Australia is approximately
$30,000 to $40,000 AUSD. “Having a child through a surrogate in Ukraine costs
between $30,000 and $45,000 USD for foreign parents”, compared to “the United
States, where surrogacy is authorized in several states, prospective parents
can expect to pay between $80,000 and $120,000 USD.” http://www.rferl.org/content/womb_for_hire_ukraine_surrogacy_boom_is_not_risk_free/24215336.html
There
are simply so many options when considering surrogacy in Ukraine. A quick
search of the internet demonstrates the large number of clinics advertising
their services in English. These links below are in no way recommendations, simply
